The Football

This is such an easy card to make for anyone who has an interest in football (or soccer as you American readers like to call it – yes I’ve had some views all the way from the USA, how exciting!).  This particular card acquiesces one of three card requests made by my Dad a few days ago. Now, I suppose I should have told my Dad to find inspiration from this blog and make the three cards himself. However, he’s poorly so I took pity on him. This card is for my uncle, whose birthday it is on Sunday. And if anyone was wondering, he supports Sunderland FC, as indeed do I, although I do my supporting in a somewhat casual manner.

Equipment

– Sheet of brightly coloured card, or a pre-folded plain square card

– Square envelope

– Sheet of white card

– Circular object or compass

– Pencil

– Black crayon

– Scissors

– Ruler

– Prittstick or other adhesive

Method

1. If you’re not using a pre-folded square card, you need to cut out a rectangle from your sheet of brightly coloured card that is twice as long as it is wide, so that when folded in half it is a square shape. Use you ruler, pencil and scissors to do this.

2. Take the white card and draw a circle whose diameter is about a centimetre less than the height of the card. Draw a football design onto the circle using a pencil – it doesn’t have to be perfect! I used the image below for inspiration. Use a pencil for shading and a black crayon to fill in the pentagon shapes. If pushed for time, print out a picture of a football and use this instead.

3. Cut out the football and stick it onto the front of the folded card. You could also ‘sign’ the football with the receiver’s name for a personal touch.

And that’s all there is to it. Write a message inside and send to your football-crazy friend!

Occasions suited to – football fan’s birthday, invitations to a party

Time to make – 30-45 minutes

Cost – less than £1, much less if using card from a multi-pack
